Painter in oil, watercolor, pastel (landscapes, portraits, interior scenes), some sculpture and printmaking. She studied in Paris under G.A. Chocarne, J.A. Guichard, Corot, A.F. Oudinot and Aime Millet.
She married Eugene Manet and was sister in law of Edouard Manet, also his model. She and Mary Cassatt were the only women among the exhibitors and founding members of the French impressionists. Morisot exhibited with the impressionists regularly except for one year, her only child was born.
Mallarme, Degas, Monet, and Renoir (whom she named guardian of her daughter) were close friends. She was of poor health and constantly questioning her talent, yet she received better auction prices than many of her colleagues
