Edward Henry Potthast Edward Henry Potthast, born in Syracuse New York. Studied photography with his father and Ward V. Ranger, Syracues: attended Syracuse University, 1873-75. He established a studio in New York, New in 1878: his first works were watercolors influenced by the Barbizon School. Trips to Europe, early 1890’s studied at Academie Julian under J. P. Laurens and J. E. Blanc. Returned to New York, 1888; moved to Connecticut where he painted on Fisher’s Island, 1900. Established permanent summer studio at Noank. Connecticut after 1900. Autumn and winter of Design;1906.
